Village Street Tree Maintenance

The Village of Allouez Forestry Division will be maintaining trees along the streets throughout the community this winter.  Urban forestry staff will be pruning village street trees in Management Units 9 and 8 (see attached map) for clearances and the health of the trees.  If a management unit is not completed this winter, it will be carried over into the next year until all of the street trees have been maintained as needed.  The Division also performs street tree pruning on a request basis by homeowners.  If you see a need for tree maintenance, feel free to contact the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department so that we can schedule the work.

In addition the Division will be performing street clearance pruning of various village street trees and privately owned trees throughout the community that have been selected by the Public Works Department.  These trees are encroaching into the street right of way and have been noted due to branches that are growing too low over the street or sidewalk resulting in safety concerns or traffic issues.  Per the Village Code of Ordinances, the village is responsible for maintaining 14 feet clearances over streets and 10 feet over sidewalks as well as providing clear vision for motorists and pedestrians.

Please feel free to contact the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department at 448-2805 if you have questions or would like to request maintenance of street trees in your neighborhood.

Allouez Sidewalk Snow and Ice Removal Policy

With winter right around the corner The Village of Allouez Public Works Dept. would like to remind everyone of the Village policies regarding snow and ice removal from sidewalks.

1.      Allouez residents must shovel their sidewalk after all snowstorms, and maintain their sidewalk clear of snow and ice--even if the sidewalk is first plowed by the Village such as after a major snowstorm of 6-inches or more.  Residents have 48 hours after a snowstorm to complete sidewalk shoveling and clearing.

2.      Property owners on Webster Avenue and Allouez Avenue must shovel after light snowfalls (when the weather bureau reports less than a 3-inch snowfall).  The Village may plow if there is significant snow buildup due to street plowing, or heavy wet snow, or severe icing.

3.      Because Brown County frequently plows large amounts of snow onto Riverside Drive, Webster Avenue and Allouez Avenue sidewalks, the Village will plow these sidewalks when the weather bureau reports a snowfall of 3-inches or more.  Allouez sidewalk plowing on Webster and Allouez Avenue will be done after Brown County finishes street plowing--to minimize the need for repeated shoveling by residents.

4.      The Village will plow all main sidewalks including Libal Street , Webster Avenue, Allouez Avenue, Hoffman Road, Riverside Drive and primary school routes after major snowstorms of 6” snowfall or more.  Property owners must shovel after Village sidewalk snowplowing to maintain their sidewalk clear.

Sidewalk Clearing Notice to Property Owners
Property owners will be notified via a letter placed in the rear door of a household if snow shoveling or ice removal does not comply with Village policy.  This will be at 48 hours after a storm event, with 48 hours allowed for compliance.

Non-Compliance Penalty
The Village of Allouez Policy for Sidewalk Clearing Charge for Non-Compliance is as follows:

1st  Notice                   $50 per lot (up to 100 ft) plus $10 per each 100 ft
2nd Notice                  Two times the 1st Non-Compliance Charge
3rd Notice                   Three times the 1st Non-Compliance Charge plus
Citation for Violation of Sidewalk Clearing Ordinance
                                        3.21

Fox River Trail is Open for the Winter in Allouez

The Village of Allouez is excited to announce that it is plowing the snow along the Fox River Trail in Allouez this winter. The trail will be cleared from Marine Street south to the Fox Point Boat Launch for walking, jogging, or biking.  This will be a great opportunity for trail users to get outdoors during the winter and continue healthy recreational activities.

“ We look forward to keeping this great trail open for year round enjoyment by Village residents and other trail users this winter." said Chris Clark, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry for the Village of Allouez.  “We hope to provide another opportunity for people to enjoy the great outdoors, especially during a time when we tend to be less active and stay indoors.”

The trail will be open for recreational purposes from 5 am to 9 pm.  A state trail pass is required for all people age 16 or older, who enjoy the Fox River Trail for biking. A pass is not required for walking, jogging or hiking. Trail users should be aware that surface irregularities and slippery conditions may exist during the winter due to the presence of some snow and ice.  The Brown County Parks Department will have restroom facilities open at St. Francis Park throughout the winter as well.

The Village of Allouez has also partnered with the City of Green Bay on the inaugural Frenzy on the Fox walk, run, bike event that will take place on Friday, January 13th, 2017.  This event is a 5K walk/run or a 10K bicycling event that starts at the CityDeck in Green Bay, runs south along the Fox River Trail into Allouez, and circles back to the starting point. For more information on this family friendly winter event visit the event website at www.greenbaywi.gov/parks/frenzy .

The Village of Allouez has many other outdoor winter activities in the community for all ages to enjoy as the weather permits.  There are groomed cross country ski trails along the Resch Family East River Trail from Green Isle Park to Wiese Park, a lighted ice skating rink at Green Isle Park, and a sledding hill at P.H. Martin Webster Park.
