2021 Fall Yard Waste Clean-Up

Weather permitting, Fall Clean-Up (the collection of leaves and yard waste) is scheduled from October 18th – November 18th.

The last day to put yard waste/leaves to the curb for pick up is November 14th. Leaves and yard waste should be placed in separate piles behind the curb – NOT IN THE STREET. Bagged material will not be collected by the Village. If residents wish to bag their yard waste, they will need to contact a private hauler for collection or take the yard waste to the LeBrun Road yard waste site. Leaf Collection map will be posted on our website once fall clean-up begins.

“Yard Waste” is defined by the village as: All materials originating in the yard and garden which are capable of natural decomposition, including leaves and other vegetation. Yard waste cannot include brush, stumps, plant stalks, tree roots, or root balls.

Crews will collect leaves and yard waste throughout the Village following regular garbage collection routes. However, depending on the amount of yard waste placed at the curb, crews will not always be able to pick this material up on the same day as the garbage is collected.

THERE IS NO BRUSH PICK UP DURING FALL CLEAN-UP THEREFORE DO NOT PLACE BRUSH AT THE CURB DURING THIS TIME.

“Brush” is defined by the village as: Trimmings from shrubs, trees, and stalks from garden plants (Rosebush and Bamboo). Brush piles must be free of loose leaves, grass, and yard waste; it cannot include tree roots or root balls.

GREEN GRASS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED BY THE VILLAGE. Green grass can be taken to the yard waste site on LeBrun Road.

LEBRUN YARD WASTE SITE (for Allouez Residents Only!) IS OPEN 24/7 (LeBrun Yard waste is located on Le Brun Street -take East River Drive, or Libal Street, or Webster Avenue south towards De Pere.)

It is not possible to accurately tell residents the exact day their yard waste will be picked up, but once collection begins information will be available on the Village’s website. If additional information is needed, please call the Village Hall at 448-2800 during office hours. Thank you for your cooperation.

Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: October 23, 2021

On October 23rd, 2021, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) will coordinate a Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative throughout Wisconsin. The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day goal is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal of prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications. Unused prescription medications in homes create a public health and safety concern, because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused, and abused.

Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Removing potentially dangerous pharmaceutical substances from our state’s medicine cabinets helps to prevent them from going into our water supply. Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove all of them and trace amounts of pharmaceuticals are showing up in rivers and lakes around the world.

Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, inhalers, creams, vials and pet medications.

Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), mercury thermometers, personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc…), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas)

  • Participants may dispose of solid, non-liquid medication(s) by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages are acceptable without the medications being removed.

  • Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging and evenly distributed within the boxes of collected solid prescription medications. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.

  • Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamines are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers

  • All participants must retain possession of their own medication during the surrender process. Law enforcement personnel should not handle the medications at any time.

Village of Allouez Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan Public Comment

The Village of Allouez has been working on an update to its Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) over the last four months.  The CORP is a guiding document designed to assist the community in planning and developing parks, recreation, trails, and open spaces which needs to be updated every five years.

This plan establishes park related goals and objectives, inventories existing park and recreation facilities, customizes recommendations by gathering and incorporating public input, and prioritizes future improvements and projects for village parks, trails, and recreation sites.  This plan will also allow the village to be eligible to receive state and federal grant funding for park and trail projects.

Click on the link to view a copy of the latest draft plan 2022-2026 Village of Allouez CORP Plan.  The village will accept comments on the plan until October 17th, 2021 via email at the office of the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry at chrisc@villageofallouez.com prior to village adoption of the plan.

We would like to thank all of the residents, user groups, staff, and committee members that have provided input and contributed to this plan.
