Kiwanis Club Donates for Playground at Kiwanis Park

The Allouez-Greater Green Bay chapter of the Kiwanis Club donated $4532 to the Village for playground equipment at Allouez Kiwanis Park.  This donation allowed the Village to add a multi-person Unity Hoopla Swing to the newly installed playground this fall.

"This was a great addition to the new playground at Kiwanis Park that was not in our budget to purchase.  the Village is very grateful and appreciative of the Kiwanis Club as well as other service groups and individuals that help make the community a better place to live," stated Chris Clark, the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry.  "We hope to continue to work with the Kiwanis Club in the upcoming years on future projects that will benefit the community."

The new playground equipment at Kiwanis Park was a Parks Department capital project in 2016 to replace the 25 year old equipment that was beyond its lifespan and was showing a lot of wear.  The Village of Allouez has twelve village parks, Heritage Hill State Park, St. Francis County Park, and various recreation trails for all to enjoy.

Chris Clark, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry receives a donation from members of the Kiwanis Club of Allouez-Greater Green Bay for the newly installed Unity Hoopla Swing at Kiwanis Park.

Fox River Trail Will Be Open For the Winter in Allouez

The Village of Allouez is excited to announce that it has come to an agreement with Brown County to remove the snow from the Fox River State Recreational Trail within the village boundaries beginning this winter.  "This is a very exciting announcement for winter outdoor enthusiasts in Allouez and Green Bay.  Based on the input from Allouez residents at community listening sessions, the village board and staff have worked over the last year with county and state officials to make this happen.  We look forward to keeping this great trail open for year round enjoyment." said Chris Clark, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry for the Village of Allouez.
The trail will be open for recreational purposes such as walking, jogging, and bicycling during normal open hours.  A state trail pass is required for all people age 16 or older, who enjoy the Fox River Trail for biking, horseback riding, and in-line skating. A state trail pass is not required for walking, jogging or hiking. Trail users should be aware that surface irregularities and slippery conditions may exist during the winter due to the presence of some snow and ice.
In addition, the Allouez Trail Connection trail between Heritage Hill State Park and Highway 172 west of Webster Avenue will be open during the winter.  For those outdoor winter recreation enthusiasts that prefer cross country skiing or snow shoeing, check out the Resch Family East River Trail between Green Isle Park and Wiese Park, weather permitting.
For more information on the Fox River State Recreational Trail please visit the Brown County Parks Department website at Brown County Parks. For more information on the Allouez Parks Department, please visit Allouez Parks.

Allouez Village Band Donates Artpiece to the Community

The Allouez Village Band has recently donated the artwork “Generations” to the Village of Allouez which is on display at the Allouez Community Center on Webster Avenue.  The band commissioned Door County artist Miles Amorelli to produce the artwork in dedication of past, current, and future band members.  The seven foot tall metal art piece was made possible, in part, through donations from the estate of Al Moede, who played saxophone with the band.
This great piece of art really exemplifies the gracious giving that is found in Allouez.   We are very grateful to the members of the Allouez Village Band and the Moede family for this gift.  Miles really did an excellent job on the piece and it is a wonderful addition to the Allouez Community Center.”  said Chris Clark, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry for the Village of Allouez.

The Village of Allouez appreciates all donations and gifts that help beautify the community.  If you are interested in donating or gifting for a project or program in the village please visit the village website at www.villageofallouez.com or call 920.448.2800.

WIS 172 Ramp Work at Webster Ave. Begins Oct. 24

Brown County) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announces a safety improvement project will begin Monday, October 24, 2016 to reconfigure the WIS 172 and Webster Avenue westbound ramp intersection. Construction is scheduled to be complete by Sunday, October 30, 2016.

Vinton Construction of Manitowoc, Wis. is the prime contractor.

The project will reconstruct the right turn island on the southbound approach on Webster Ave. to westbound WIS 172 and the associated right-turn lane. The new island will remove the large, sweeping curve and create an acceptable approach angle to the westbound on-ramp lane to WIS 172. The new geometry on the approach is expected to reduce right-turn crashes and help motorists see conflicting traffic.

Traffic impacts:

·    Westbound WIS 172 on-ramp from Webster Ave. will be CLOSED Monday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Oct. 30. No signed detour will be provided. Traffic seeking westbound WIS 172 should utilize the local street system.

·        Southbound Webster Ave. reduced to one lane.

·        Both lanes of northbound Webster Ave. will be open.

·        Access to business and properties in the work zone will be maintained.

The $157,000 project is funded through the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).  Motorists are advised to use caution and remain alert when driving through this or any work zone.

2016 Fall Clean-Up

Fall cleanup of leaves and garden waste begins October 17 and extends thru the week before Thanksgiving. Leaves should be placed on the lawn next to the curb by Monday morning, but NOT IN THE STRRET. The Village crews make pass thru the Village every 6-7 days.

It is important that leaves be placed at the curb by Monday morning, since leaf collection varies & does not always follow the garbage collection schedule.

Due to the large volume of leaves, baler collection is continuous, especially in November, and leaves may be picked any day of the week. There is no brush collection during November, so please do not mix brush and leaves together when placing at the curb, as the brush prevents the leaf collection from functioning.

Last day to place any leaves or fall cleanup on the curb is Sunday November 13!

Overnight Parking

No person shall park a vehicle on any street in the Village between 2:00 a.m.
and 6:00 a.m. during the five-month period from November 1 through March 31 of
the following year. The Village Administrator has the authority to call off or suspend the
seasonal parking ban ordinance, weather permitting, after March 15th of any one year.

Behold the Blooms

Are you among the 6% of Allouez households who have contributed towards the marvelous blooms lining our boulevards?  Hasn’t Schroeders done an excellent job of planning and planting?  Because of you, The Allouez Beautification Committee has been able to fund this project over the last twenty years.  However, our  Fund Drive, begun this past May,, has not reaped the necessary amount to cover expenses  this year.  If you are among the other 94% who have not yet made a contribution, we invite you to experience the personal pride one feels in knowing that you have played a role in beautifying your community.  No gift is too small.  Make your check payable to Allouez Beautification Committee and mail it to US Bank at 1950 S. Webster Avenue. On your next drive through our lovely community, you may behold the blooms  with “new” eyes.
